The focus work for this month is Respect.

Respect is being thankful for who people are and what they do in our lives.

This past week, in class the MKG Kids talked about how to respect their peers. “Peers” were people around a similar age. That included family members like brothers and sisters and classmates at school (and at the gym). They learned that a great way to show respect to their peers is by observing the “Golden Rule” – Treat others the way you would like to be treated.

Our discussion included how our MKG Kids could practice showing respect to their peers in their everyday lives. In our martial art class, one of the big things that we do to show respect is “salute”. Saluting is a martial artsy way of saying “Thank You, for being my partner”.  Since we have partners in class, students have lots of chances to practice how to observe the Golden Rule physically. If they want to have a good partner, the best way to start, is by being a good partner. The golden rule doesn’t just stop in martial art classes, we also discuss that treating others the way that you would want to be treated is a great way to start and build great friendships.

We realize that having a respectful child is one of our biggest goals for social development as parents. So,  MKG Madison is here to partner with you to reach that goal.

If you have any questions, just grab one of our instructors or contact us at info@MKGMadison.com

This Week’s Focus is Respecting Ourselves – “Give 100%, 100% of the time”.

And Our Technique Focus is Grappling – Break falls, Pummeling and Takedowns.

As an instructor, I get this question a lot, “What else can I do to get better?” The intention of this question is great! It shows a willingness to learn what it takes to develop. The question is asked with the thought there may be something “special” or “secret” that can be done to accelerate development.
