MKG60 was a great success!

Sunday, May 5th marked the inaugural MKG60 event.

For the first time ever, MKG International was together and training all over the world at the same time. The main event was in Calshot, UK during the 5th annual MKG UK Camp. MKG schools all over the world shared in the fun by joining a video conference call. With this call we were able to see the diversity of people and their training. More importantly, we were able to see how we are a part of a greater family and that we share the same passion for Rick Faye’s MKG Method.

It was a fantastic event and I am proud of everyone who participated. We had 9 folks that stepped up to the plate here in Madison: Jill, Mitch, Ezra, Andrew, Kyle, Dan, Matthew, Ben and I. It was so fun to see everyone’s individual approach and creativity prepping and executing their plan for the event. Great job!

We are looking forward to the next world wide event so that we can connect with our MKG Family!

The inspiration and innovator of the MKG60 event was MKG’s UK and European Director, Brendan Westwood. Unfortunately, he was not able to see the event. Bren passed a April 14th, after a 6 year battle with cancer. We send our thoughts and prayers to the MKG UK family. We honored Bren’s memory by continuing with the event and training hard. I am sure he would have been proud.

As I wrote about last week, this block we are trying something a little different. We will be having a weekly focus.

The word of the month this month is Respect. Respect is being thankful for who people are and what they do in our lives.

We specifically discussed how to show respect to those that are an authority or people that are “in change”. (Parents, Teachers, Instructors, Coaches etc.) A great way to show that we respect our Authorities is by being “1st Time Listeners” or doing what we are asked the very first time. I mentioned that we would check in with you parents this week to see if they were making progress on being 1st Time Listeners.

Parents, let us know your success stories of your kids being first time listeners!

This Week’s Focus is Respecting our Peers.

And Our Technique Focus is Thai Kicks

After such an amazing weekend of training, getting to watch people from all over the world come together with a the same passion for martial art. I thought it would be appropriate to take a second to dive deeper in to what the MKG Method means to me.

MKG is quite a bit different then other expressions of martial art. Our goal is use martial art as a tool to “Develop more functional, more peaceful people for a more functional, more peaceful world.”

The goal of MKG is provide guidance for those who find martial art as a choice for personal expression. Our goal as instructors is to be a guide along your journey in anyway that you chose to go. The MKG Method is meant be a long term source of personal development, physically, mentally, emotionally and even spiritually.  Our hope is that you will never have to use your training in service of defending yourself or anyone else (unless that is your chosen profession). Even though that is our hope, we know that it could happen. So, the MKG curriculum focuses on teaching techniques and concepts from many perspectives on martial art, that are well rounded and very effective if ever needed.

With all of that said, our greatest hope is that you take advantage of the MKG Method as tool to help you become a “Better You”.
